Overcome Sunday Scaries With Stoicism

Overcome Sunday Scaries With Stoicism
As Sunday night approaches, many of us start to get the familiar unease of the "Sunday Scaries." This week, I wanted to help you to try and transform those anxious feelings into motivation and positivity.

Embracing the New Week with Stoicism

Stoicism is an ancient philosophy that originated in Greece. It offers valuable insights for overcoming the Sunday Scaries. Here are some of my favourite teachings to help you start your week with a calm, focused & positive mindset:

1. Focus on What You Can Control
Instead of worrying about the tasks and challenges that await you, direct your energy toward what you can control. Prepare for the week ahead by organising your priorities and setting goals. You can't control every outcome, but you can control your effort and attitude.

2. Practice Gratitude
Take a moment to reflect on the positives in your life. Gratitude helps shift your focus from anxiety to appreciation. Consider jotting down three things you're thankful for every Sunday night.

3. Visualise Success
Spend a few minutes visualising a successful week. Imagine yourself achieving your goals, whether it's getting that promotion, losing body fat, building muscle, or improving relationships. Visualisation can boost your confidence and motivation.

Practical Techniques to Beat the Sunday Scaries

In addition to Stoic principles, here are some practical techniques to help you start your week on a high note:

1. Plan and Prepare
Spend some time on Sunday evening planning your week. Outline your tasks, set your goals, and prepare your meals and outfits. This preparation can reduce Monday morning stress and help you ease into the week.

2. Set a Positive Intention
Start your week with a positive intention. It could be something like "I will approach this week with optimism and resilience" or "I will make healthy choices and be kind to myself."

3. Engage in a Relaxing Activity
Do something you enjoy on Sunday evening. Whether it's reading a book, taking a warm bath, or spending time with loved ones, engaging in a relaxing activity can help you wind down and feel more at ease.

4. Get Enough Sleep
Prioritise sleep by going to bed early and avoiding screens after dark. A good night's rest can significantly impact your mood and energy levels. Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep to wake up refreshed and ready to tackle the week.

5. Stay Hydrated and Eat Well
Start your week with a healthy breakfast and stay hydrated throughout the day. Proper nutrition and hydration can boost your energy and focus, helping you feel more capable and driven.

6. Consider Meditation
Set your timer for 5 minutes, try and clear your mind and focus on slow and controlled deep breathing. As you exhale feel the tension from the body dissipating. It might not seem like it's doing much, but believe me, you are letting go of weeks or even months of built up tension.

A New Week, A New Opportunity
Remember, each new week is an opportunity to do better and be better.
Embrace the new week with gratitude and determination.

Be thankful for another chance to pursue your goals and make positive changes in your life. Each step you take brings you closer to where you want to be.

Wishing you a motivated and successful week ahead!
